The Nyandarua County Government has defended itself from accusations by the Auditor General Nancy Gathungu that it misappropriated funds amounting to Sh153 million.
The money was paid to an engineer for gravelling and grading on roads, hiring of cars and other roads equipment by the dissolved unit during the 2018/2019 financial year.
Hire of vehicles, plant
The County Executive Committee Member for Finance Samuel Njoroge, in a statement yesterday said the cash in question were funds paid to Mechanical Transport Fund (MTF) to hire vehicles, plant and equipment to grade and gravel various roads across the county, and instead of a loss, close to 30 percent was saved.
“We advise that this Contract was a Government-to-Government Procurement with pre-negotiated and published rates by the State Department of Transport.
We note that the cost of using the MTF resulted in cost savings of 29 percent hence achieving value for more and prudence in utilisation of Public Funds,” said Njoroge who is also the acting County Secretary and Head of Public Service.
The auditors queried Sh17.6 million which was used for grading and gravelling and requested for payment schedules, work tickets, equipment daily utilisation schedules (gravel delivery notes and fuel delivery notes and schedules for the specific roads done.
